The Antarctic Circumpolar Current
The Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) flows around Antarctica, without running into continents, much like an atmospheric jet. My work focuses on the localized nature of the ACC and the importance of bottom topography for the circulation.
Geophysical Fluid Dynamics
I am interested in the dynamics of turbulence in the atmospheric and oceanic systems. I study this using simplified numerical models and analytical tools.
Developing Mathematical Techniques
Throughout my work I am striving to apply the state of the art dynamical techniques to understand Earth’s ocean and atmosphere systems.
Carbon Fluxes and Ocean Biogeochemistry
The ocean is the dominant reservoir of carbon so it is important that we understand the ocean’s role so that we can understand the global carbon budget. My work focuses on the role of the Southern Ocean in the global carbon budget.
